Final additions

After The exhibition, it was back to work! The days were slipping by fast and there was much work to be done. The holes in the tree needed to be finished and the mirrors needed to be painted for the final addition to our sculpture.

EXHIBITION - WORK BY LISA HEAVEY

First piece is a wood carving with rusty nails inserted along the grain. The log belongs to the Sherkin Project tree, a branch from the tree aged 35 years. Entitled 35'

Second piece was an Animation projected onto the wall of the gallery of The Native Irish wildflower Ribworth Plantain, it is overlooked by many even though the Sherkin Island landscape is covered with them. I wanted to capture the subtle movement of it blowing in the wind. Entitled Slanlus

WORK BY DYLAN LENNON

this piece came from a project based on patterns in nature and the environment, in which I mainly looked at and used the flight patterns of birds and the scale at which flocks work as a group. The piece is made up of 27 prints hung from the ceiling, slightly curving towards the corner, the piece follows a slight curved pattern based on a flock of starlings

Day 10 Free Rein

Today we spent most of the day installing the exhibition 'Free Rein'. Opening was at 6.00. There was a great turn out and a very positive response from the locals.

Day 9 Special Delivery

Mirrors arrived today which allowed us to get start painting while further progress on the tree continued. We used a trestle to work further up the tree.

Day 8 Waiting Game

We were expecting materials to arrive from Dublin today which didn't arrive. This delayed progress but we spent our time working on the tree and the exhibition.

Day 7 Easy Day

Had a great night last night, we went to a session in the Islanders Rest Hotel hence the late breakfast and easy day on Sunday. After breakfast we went to the community hall to prepare for the exhibition and remainder of the day was spent preparing work for it.

Day 6 Chisel, Grind and Score

Weather today was warm and bright. We finished cutting, sanding and flattening the apertures. We continued to shape the tree using the angle grinder and chisels.

Day 5 Deconstruction

Changeable weather today. Bernadette Burns gave us permission to use the aluminum from her old caravan. This was collected, then sanitized and cut into pieces for the apertures. We worked on this in groups, meanwhile the tree was being continuously sanded. Colin came back to help us shape the tree.
